Henja Semmler received her education from Rainer Kussmaul, Gerhard Schulz and Thomas Brandis, among others.

From 2018 until 2023, she was professor of violin at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. Since 2023, she has been professor of violin at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock, Germany.

With the Oberon Trio founded by her in 2006 and with partners such as Tabea Zimmermann, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Jens-Peter Maintz, Jörg Widmann, Ian Bostridge and Christoph Prégardien, she has performed at Musikfest Berlin, Rheingau Musikfestival, Heidelberger Frühling, Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Beethoven-Woche Bonn, Herbstgold-Festival Eisenstadt and Lucerne Festival.

Her interest in contemporary music led her to collaborate with the composers Jörg Widmann, Sofia Gubaidulina, Heinz Holliger, Benjamin Yusupov, Charlotte Bray and Johannes Motschmann.

Henja Semmler is a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and is guest concert master of the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Haydn Philharmonie Eisenstadt and Ensemble Resonanz.
