Austrian born violinist Univ.-Prof. David Frühwirth has already made quite a name for himself in the international music scene.
He is a passionate teacher and gives since 20 years regular Master Classes for violin, chamber music and lectures in Europe, South America and Asia. He holds a professorship for violin at the Vienna University for Music and Art – mdw.
At an early age David Frühwirth enrolled at the Salzburg “Mozarteum” University where he studied with the legendary Ruggiero Ricci. He then continued his studies in Germany with the Zakhar Bron. For his postgraduate diplomas he was invited by Pinchas Zukerman to study with him and Patinca Kopec for three years in New York, where he finished with honours.
In the past seasons David Frühwirth was invited to play at major concert halls such as the Musikverein Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, “Mozarteum” Concert Hall Salzburg, Historic Museum Moscow, Pompidou Centre Paris, Prinzregenten Theater Munich as well as at the „Zeitkunstfestival - Berlin” and the „Toledo Music Festival“. Highlights also include several performances celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sibelius (Debut with MPO Malaysia), concerts in Rio di Janeiro and the release of his CD recording with Karl Weigl Violin concerto together with “Norddeutsche Philharmonic Orchestra”.
Already 2004 he played his Debut Recital at the “Salzburg Festival” and 2010 in Beijing with the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra (conductor Gabriel Feltz). He is a regular guest at prestigious Music Festivals including Gstaad Music Festival, Schleswig Holstein Festival, Black Sea Festival, Cheltenham Festival UK, Richard-Strauss-Tage, Spring Festival Budapest, Cappenberg Music Festival, Davos Festival and Prussia Cove - Open Chamber Music Festival in the UK.
The violinist has also performed both as soloist and as chamber musician at many well-known musical centers such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Konzerthaus Vienna, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Great Festival Hall Salzburg, Herkulessaal Munich and Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
Orchestras he has worked with include Mariinsky Orchestra, Mozarteum Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, China National Orchestra, MPO Malaysia, Dortmund and Nürnberger Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra and New York Symphonic Ensemble, under famous Conductors such as: Valery Gergiev, Kozuhiro Koizumi, Alexander Lazarev, Hubert Soudant, Arthur Fagen, Philippe Auguin, Toshiyuki Kamioka, Florian Krumpoeck, Johannes Wildner, Andrew Constantine, Theodor Guschlbauer and many others.
He maintains a busy chamber music schedule, and has performed together with Jörg Widmann, Steven Isserlis, Herbert Schuch, Tatjana Masurenko, Wen-Sinn Yang, Julius Berger, Claudio Bohorquez, Milana Chernyavska, Adrian Brendel and Lawrence Power. Since 2008 he is the first violinist of the “Klenze – String Quartett” based in Munich. He also has worked extensively with main composers our time including Jörg Widmann, David Noon, Sarah Nemtsov, Olga Potchikina, Graham Waterhouse and Marcello Nisinmann.
David Frühwirth is prize-winner of several national and international competitions. In 2004 he was also the recipient of the „Millennium Award” in London, which led to Lecture Recitals at the Menuhin School of Music and at Oxford University.
The violinist is an enthusiastic explorer of unknown repertoire and has restored many forgotten works to the concert stage. This has led to numerous CD recordings with following labels: Capriccio, OEHMS Classics, Crystal Classics, Hungaroton and EDA; His first Double CD „Trails of Creativity“ at AVIE Records received Editor’s Choice in the Fono Forum and Gramophone Magazine.
