Gertrud Weinmeister is professor for viola at Music and Art Private University Vienna and at Bern University of the Arts.

She comes from a Salzburg family of musicians and studied at University Mozarteum Salzburg, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Northern Illinois University in the USA.

Under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, she was solo viola of the Concentus Musicus Wien for many years. She was also a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Klangforum Wien.

Her interest in historically informed performance has led to numerous Originalklang concerts, especially in the viola-hammerklavier formation and in the Weinmeister Trio.

As a soloist she has worked with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Staatskapelle Weimar, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and Bielefelder Philharmoniker.

As violist of the Trio Weinmeister she gave concerts at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie Cologne, the Musikhalle Hamburg, the concert halls of Stockholm, Vienna and Brussels, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Athens Concert Hall and the Birmingham Symphony Hall as well as at the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn.

Gertrud Weinmeister is a sought-after chamber music partner and performs at important festivals such as Wien Modern, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Schwetzingen, Musiktage Mondsee, Ravinia-Festival USA, Lockenhaus Festival.

For many years she was a member of the Hugo Wolf Quartet, with whom she undertook extensive concert tours in Europe, the USA and South America, as well as recording numerous CDs.
